Department of Corrections and Community Supervision

Employer and Business Interest with Hiring Parolees

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision recognizes the importance of sustained employment for formerly incarcerated individuals who are supervised in the community. Employment provides these individuals with a means to self-sufficiency and the ability to support their families, as well as the capacity to structure their time in positive ways.

The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision also understands the needs of area employers and their ability to ask questions related to the hiring of formerly incarcerated persons and how their supervision may impact their employment. Accordingly, in each of the seven Community Supervision Regions across New York State, a single point of contact, or Employment Liaison, has been designated to communicate with area employers.

Please feel free to contact the Employment Liaison for your respective county location if you are an area employer who has general questions about release conditions relating to employment, employment opportunities for individuals on supervision, or if you have any other employment questions or concerns.

On a related note, the Department of Labor offers information for both job seekers and employers on some of the incentives and options available to individuals with known barriers to employment that include having a criminal history. Please view the provided links describing the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and the Federal Bonding Program.
