Nicole Rutland Receives First New York State Correctional Facility Superintendent's Association Educational Scholarship

In 2018, the New York State Correctional Facility Superintendent’s Association created an educational scholarship opportunity that was offered to all DOCCS employees and their family members. As a way to give back, the Superintendent's Association wanted to start providing assistance to agency staff who were improving their lives through education. In July, 22 applications that included essays, reference letters, and current grade point averages, were received and reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.

Based on a point system established for rating the applications, our first scholarship award of $1500 was awarded to Nicole Rutland, Office Assistant 1, in the Medical unit at Wallkill Correctional Facility. Ms. Rutland is pursuing a Nursing degree at Orange County Community College.
